Another foray into all creativity is good creativity rabbit hole! As usual, I will endeavour to explore any creative whim I can come up with, so you don’t have to! Not really, you’ll still have to.
ALL CREATIVITY IS GOOD CREATIVITY (ahem, within reason)
In my last post I explained the tumbling down the rabbit hole that occurred, and my idea to create a little special one-off interactive chapter. In hindsight, I am a dumbass - repeated investigations over a period of many years have proven this hypothesis multiple times, I probably won’t write a research paper about how I am a dumbass... (that would be an autobiography…idiot).
Substack has things buttoned up pretty tight. Honestly, it’s probably for the best. I mean, we don’t really want to spiral down into a MySpace-era (okay kids, I know that was a LONG time ago) customise everything world. Although having the cursor turn into a little skull, and explosions of confetti over the whole page might be fun for a day. Maybe somewhere out there somebody knows how to embed an iframe into a post - but I can’t work it out, and I’ve spent far too much time trying to do it already.
You can visit the weird little choose your adventure here.
A few notes on this, just in case anyone is interested in trying it… (I might produce a mini-guide on how to do it, but who knows.)
It is very hard to edit content at the same time as putting all the pieces together. In my typical rush to do this I have produced some of the worst writing of the whole story so far…and that’s saying something. If I was to do it again, I’d write the story, then start piecing it together - Rookie mistake!
Testing takes ages, no doubt it will break if you find the right route.
I should’ve considered how this was going to appear on Substack before jumping down the rabbit hole, but it’s done now!
itch.io is a great place to host little testers like this. In the past I’ve self hosted (as I did with Bitter), but who really has time to manage all of that for the sake of one project when you can use other places like github and itch.io? - that was a previous rookie fail.
This has not scratched my game dev itch as much as I hoped it would, so those cogs will keep turning for now.
OMWORD this is AWESOME!
OMG OMG OMG THIS IS ABSOLUTELY TENTACULAR!!!! MAGIC PENCIL ALL THE WAY!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉👏👏👏👏👏
